Protologue citation:—“ Sikkim, Changu, Chakung-Chu; 13,000 ft., Smith, No. 3563, 3849”.
Type:— INDIA. Sikkim: East Sikkim district, Changu, 13,000 ft., 16 July 1910, W. W. Smith 3563 (lectotype K000739126!, designated here).
Syntype:— INDIA. Sikkim: West Sikkim district, Chakung-Chu, 13,000 ft., 26 July 1910, W. W. Smith 3849 ( PH 00020188!).
Notes:— Bonati (1913b) described Pedicularis sikkimensis based on the specimen nos. 3563 and 3849 collected by W. W. Smith from Sikkim, India. The specimen no. 3563 is housed at K (K000739126) and specimen no. 3849 at PH ( PH 00020188). The better preserved specimen K000739126 which bears well develop stem, leaves and flowers, is designated here as the lectotype. One specimen no. 1213 collected by W. W. Smith from Zenan Valley, Sikkim on 11 July 1909, annotated as “ Pedicularis sikkimensis sp. nov. Bonati” by W. W. Smith was also traced at CAL (CAL0000019066), however since this specimen number does not find mention in the protologue, it is not clear whether Bonati examined it while describing P. sikkimensis or not, hence it has not been considered here as the original material.
