Protologue citation:—“ Hab. in Gosaingsthan Nepalensium. Wallich ”.
Type :— NEPAL. Gosain Than, 1819, Wallich cat. n. 419 (lectotype K001109998!, designated here) ; isolectotypes CAL!, E00273636!, K000739146!, K000739147!, K000739149!
Notes:—D. Don (1825) described Pedicularis brevifolia based on the specimens of Wallich collected from Gosain Than, Nepal. Don’s types are known to be held mainly at BM and LINN-HS, but after contacting the curators of these herbaria no specimen of Wallich belonging to Gosain Than, Nepal could be traced. Prain (1890) had mentioned that some specimens (isosyntypes) collected by Wallich from Gosain Than, Nepal in 1819, are housed at CAL and K. Pertaining to the type specification given in protologue and by Prain (1890), six specimens collected by Wallich from Gosain Than, Nepal in 1819 were traced (CAL, E00273636, K000739146, K000739147, K000739149 and K001109998). Of these, the best preserved specimen K001109998, is designated here as the lectotype. The date 1829 mentioned on sheets E00273636 and K000739149, is the date of inclusion of these specimens with the name P. lanigera in the Wallich catalogue (Wallich cat. n. 419), not the year of collection.
