Panzeria vagans (Meigen) View in CoL
( Figs 49–50 View FIGURES 45–50 )
Tachina vagans Meigen, 1824: 248 . Type (s), male (MNHN, not examined). References: Herting (1972: 13, Meigen’s types) .
[For other synonyms see Herting (1984: 103).]
Diagnosis. The brownish-haired eyes, parafacial with short black hairs on upper 1/2 and apically well recurved male cerci are distinctive in this species.
Description of terminalia. Male: 6th abdominal tergite narrowly separated from syntergosternite 7+8, with many strong setae posteriorly. Female: 6th tergite separated mid-dorsally into hemitergites, at most 1.5 times as long as 6th sternite, with a rather irregular row of short median setae and a row of marginal setae; 6th sternite quadrate ventral view, weakly membranous on narrow anteromedian 1/2, with rather sparse setae at most on ventral 1/2; 7th tergite narrowly separated mid-dorsally, about 2/3 as long as 6th tergite, with a row of rather short marginal setae; 7th sternite slightly shorter than 6th sternite, weakly and narrowly membranous on mid-ventral 2/3, with several fine setae at most on posterior 1/3; 8th tergite reduced to very small rectangular hemitergites, without hairs; 8th sternite wide and nearly rectangular, with fine long hairs; epiproct small, with 2–3 pairs of long setae.
Material examined fom Japan (all in KUM). Honshu : 1 male, Saitama Pref., Ogawa , 1.v.1998, K. Hara ; 1 male, Saitama Pref., Yorii, Mure , 17.iv.2001, T . Nambu ; 1 male, Saitama Pref., Jumonji, Oyama , 25.vii.1976, K. Hara ; 1 male, Toyama Pref., Unazuki Town, Unazuki Onsen , 9.v.1977, T . Iwai ( KUM) .
Distribution. Japan (Honshu); China (Heilongjiang, Jilin), Europe (widespread), Russia (widespread).
Remarks. This species was redescribed in detail by Zimin (1960) and Mesnil (1972a, as Meriania vagans ). Zimin (1960: 728, figs 1–2) and Cerretti (2010: Vol. II, p. 174, fig. 6) illustrated the male terminalia of this species. This species appears to be rare in Japan.
