Type material examined. Yunnantettix bannaensis : holotype ♀, China: Yunnan Prov., Jinghong , Xiaomengyang, 06. V. 1974, IZSNU ; paratypes 2♂, the same data as holotype, IZSNU . Other material examined. 20♂, 34♀, China: Yunnan Prov., Mengla, Menglun, 28. VII. 2018, EMHU ; 7♂, 8♀, China: Yunnan Prov., Mengla, Mengmang, 31. VII. 2018, EMHU .

Notes. Comparison of holotype and paratypes of Yunnantettix bannaensis and additional specimens from Yunnan with the original description and photographs of holotype and allotype of Yunnantettix variabilis shows that these taxa are conspecific and characterized by the anterior margin of vertex arched or slightly obtuse, width of vertex between eyes is three times width of the compound eye, and the apex of the hind pronotal process with weak excision. These characters define the new synonymy proposed here.
