Type species: Gibbotettix emeiensis Zheng, 1992 by original designation.

Description and differential diagnosis. Deng et al. published a redescription in 2016 (see Deng, Zheng & Wei 2016). Gibbotettix spp. share the following characteristics: the frontomedial, promedial, and first metamedial projections are connected, their integration with the surrounding elevated dorsum results in the formation of a very high crest. This genus is similar to Austrohancockia Günther , but it differs from the latter by the anterior margin of pronotum distinctly produced over the head; the anterior half of pronotum distinctly prominent, hump-back like, posterior half flat; humeral angles and metalateral projections not significantly projected.

Composition and distribution. Fourteen species are previously assigned to the genus Gibbotettix Zheng. In this study, one species previously classified in Austrohancockia Günther ( Austrohancockia undatimarginis Deng & Zheng, 2012 ) is moved to the genus Gibbotettix Zheng ; Gibbotettix serrifemura Deng, Zheng & Wei, 2016 , syn. nov. and Gibbotettix longivalva Zha & Li, 2018 , syn. nov. are synonymized with Gibbotettix emeiensis Zheng, 1992 . Thus, to date, the genus includes 13 known species only found in China.
