Diagnosis. Seminemacheilus ispartensis is distinguished from S. lendlii by having deeply embedded and isolated oval scales on the caudal peduncle (vs. body scaleless); a very short head (head length 21–24% SL vs. 25–28% SL), a narrower caudal peduncle (10–12% SL vs. 12–16% SL; caudal peduncle depth 1.3–1.6 times in caudal pe- duncle length (vs. 1.1–1.2), and a shorter predorsal (50–54% SL vs. 53–57) and prepelvic length (52–56% SL vs. 56–59).

Distribution. Seminemacheilus ispartensis is very widespread in Lake Eğirdir basin and it is also found in the stream Değirmendere, a tributary of the Lake Salda. In addition, Bănărescu & Nalbant (1964) also recorded Seminemacheilus (as S. lendlii ) from Karapınar (Lake Yarışlı basin), from where it seems to have disappeared as Karapınar dried out. This locality was in the middle of the known range of S. ispartensis (between Lake Salda and Lake Eğirdir).

Remarks. Based on DNA barcoding, S. ispartensis is very closely related to S. lendlii , and the minimum K2P distance between S. ispartensis and S. lendlii is only 0.1%. Due to this very close relationship, it is not recovered as a distinct species in the PTP and mPTP delimitation approaches. However, we recognizse S. ispartensis as a valid species as it is well differentiated from S. lendlii by the morphological characters given in the diagnosis above. We suspect that introgressive hybridisation of S. lendlii into S. ispartensis or vice versa might have recently occurred; more research is needed to resolve this case.

Erk’akan et al. (2007) gave 37°38’N 30°31’E (= 37.6333, 30.5166) as the type locality of S. ispartensis . How- ever, there is no perennial surface water at this location and it is not situated along the road between Eğirdir and Isparta. There might be a lapsus in the coordinates given by Erk’akan et al. (2007), similar to several other erroneous coordinates in the same study as discussed in detail by Kottelat (2012).
