Material examined (n=6). Holotype ♂: FRENCH GUIANA. Saint-Laurent du Maroni, in september, Le Moult leg. ( MNHN) . Paratypes: FRENCH GUIANA. ♂ Pont de la Comté , RN2, 20.IX.1998 R. Lupoli leg. ( RLC) ; COLOMBIA. Meta: ♀ Vista Hermosa , 28-30.XI.1970, M. Descamps leg. ( MNHN) ; BRAZIL. Pará: ♂ Belém, Parque do Utinga , 10.X.1962, J. Bechyné leg. ( MZUSP) . BOLIVIA. Santa Cruz: ♀ 339, 8599/34 (both number on different faces of the same label) [Santa Cruz de la Sierra province, November 1830] MNHN( EH) 25122 ( MNHN); No data : ♂ MNHN( EH) 25123 ( MNHN).
Measurements. Total length: 15.5–16.3; head length: 1.5–2.0; head width: 3.9–3.2; pronotal length: 3.0–3.2; pronotal width: 9.1–10.0; abdominal width: 8.5–8.7; scutellum length: 6.7–7.5; scutellum width: 5.4–5.6; length of antennal segments. I: 0.9–1.0; II: 2.0–3.4; III: 1.0–1.3; IV: 4.0–4.4; V: 4.5–5.7.
Diagnosis. Anterolateral margin of pronotum with solid black stripe along half of its extension, remaining smoky black. Anterolateral margin with few dark punctures dorsally ( Fig. 18G View FIGURE 18 ). Cicatrices with dark brown punctures delimiting anterior sulci ( Fig. 18G View FIGURE 18 ). Scutellum with anterior margin concolorous ( Fig. 18G View FIGURE 18 ). Body ventrally with stripes dark brown ( Fig. 18H View FIGURE 18 ). Male genitalia ( Fig. 4A–D View FIGURE 4 ). Pygophore with dorsal rim shallowly excavated ( Fig. 4A View FIGURE 4 ). Superior process of genital cup small, reniform, ventral margin with a short medial digitiform projection, adjacent to dorsal rim; visible in dorsal view ( Fig. 4A–C View FIGURE 4 ). Head of the paramere broad; anterior lobe short and truncated; posterior lobe large and acuminated; stalk with a low ridge on inner face evanescent toward anterior lobe ( Fig. 4B–C View FIGURE 4 ). Proctiger with dorsolateral dense tufts of long setae separated by median wide glabrous area; posterior face barrel-shaped ( Fig. 4B–D View FIGURE 4 ). Ventral rim with medial excavation in “V”, margin swollen; expansions large, broad, rounded, distally light yellow, surpassing level of posterolateral angles in ventral view ( Fig. 4D View FIGURE 4 ). Female unknown.
Comments. The number 8599/34 attached to the paratype female deposited in the collection of MNHN means entry n° 8599 of the year 1834 on the catalogue d’Orbigny (1834) with the following information: “ Bolivie, province Santa Cruz de la Sierra, punaise sur buissons et arbustes à la lisière de bois épais et humides, vole facilement sur plantes cultivées, novembre 1830 ” [ Bolivia, Santa Cruz de la Sierra province, bug on bushes and shrubs at the edge of thick, damp woods, flies easily on cultivated plants, November 1830]. This species like H. unguiculatus and H. runcinatus shows the head of the paramere broad with posterior lobe well-developed and rounded to acuminated, anterior lobe somewhat developed and rounded ( Figs. 4B View FIGURE 4 , 16B View FIGURE 16 , 13B View FIGURE 13 ). The species H. crassimarginatum can be separated from the other two by the anterior lobe of the paramere slightly developed ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ) (more developed in H. unguiculatus and H. runcinatus ( Figs. 16B View FIGURE 16 , 13B View FIGURE 13 ); and superior process of the genital cup curved ventrally ( Fig. 4B View FIGURE 4 ) (almost straight in H. unguiculatus and H. runcinatus ).
Etymology. Name refers to the swollen margin of the median excavation of ventral rim of the pygophore (crassus = thick, stout).
Distribution ( Fig. 21A View FIGURE 21 ). FRENCH GUIANA: Saint-Laurent du Maroni; COLOMBIA: Meta; BRAZIL: Pará; BOLIVIA: Santa Cruz.
