Diagnosis
Mediumsized grayish flies; facial carina low and rather straight, gena about 2/5 of eye height, antenna dark brown with pedicel dark reddish, palpus brown, reddish apically, 3+4 dc, hind tibia with a distinct apical pv; abdomen dark brown with dense grayish white pruinosity that has shifting appearance, abdominal syntergite 1+2 excavated back to posterior margin with strong median marginal setae, abdominal tergites 4 and 5 with irregular discal setae, costal spine absent. Cerci slender on apical half, surstylus extending beyond cerci and bluntly rounded apically, distiphallus with membranous apical part about twice as long as sclerotized basal part.

Remarks
This species is known from Europe and Russia (East Siberia). It resembles D. similis , but is easily distinguished from it in having the abdomen evenly covered with grayish pruinosity of tessellated appearance, facial carina low, and strong apical pv seta on hind tibia.
