Diagnosis

Mediumsized fly; antenna reddish yellow; abdomen broadly reddish yellow; syntergite 1+2 excavated to posterior margin, with median marginal setae; costal spine absent; 3+4 dc.

This species was described from a male specimen from Ussurijsk, Russia. Although we did not examine the type of this species, it is a very characteristic species and the specimens examined in this study correspond quite well to the original description. Here are added some male characters and a description of the female based on our specimens .

Body length. 8.8–10.0 mm.

Description

Male. Head mostly pale yellowish in ground color, with whitish pruinosity; antenna, arista and palpus yellow; vertex about 1/10 head width; inner vertical seta about 2/5 eye height; ocellar seta longer and stronger than inner vertical seta; 10–12 frontal setae; base of antenna nearly level with lower 1/3 of eye height, pedicel with 2 long setae that are as long as flagellomere 1; prementum about 4 times as long as wide; palpus slightly longer than antenna. Thorax including scutellum black in groud color, with dense grayish white pruinosity, base of scutellum black; 1+2 ac; 3+4 dc; 0+2 ia; 3 sa; basal and subapical scutellar seta subequal in length and about 1.5 times as long as scutellum; apical scutellar seta subequal in length to scutellum. Wing hyaline, only very slightly and evenly tinged with pale brown; tegula black, basicosta brown; calypter white; costal spine absent; relative length of costal sections 2nd, 3rd and 4th approximately as 3:3.5:1.5; vein M from dmcu crossvein to its bend about 1.5 times distance between the bend and wing margin. Legs black; fore tibia with 1 very fine p; mid tibia with 1 ad, 2 pd and 1 v, all setae very fine; hind tibia without apical pv. Abdomen broadly reddish yellow except mid dorsal longitudinal portion, posterior margin of tergite 4 and entire 5, with thin grayish white pruinosity; syntergite 1+2 excavated back to posterior margin, with 2 fine median marginal setae; tergites 3 and 4 without discal setae. Male terminalia cerci distinctly narrowed on apical 3/5 and pointed at apex, evenly bent ventrally, surstylus bluntly rounded; aedeagal apodeme long and slender, distiphallus slender, membranous apical part slightly longer than sclerotized basal part.

Female. Frons wide, vertex slightly less than 1/3 head width; frontal vitta weakly widened anteriorly, subequal in width to frontoorbital plate at middle; parafacial about twice as wide as flagellomere 1; gena about 4/9 eye height; inner vertical seta strong, slightly more than 1/2 eye height; outer vertical seta about 1/2 as long as inner seta; ocellar seta slighlty longer than inner vertical seta; 1 prevertical seta subequal in length to outer vertical seta; 2 proclinate orbial setae subequal in length to each other and to inner vertical seta; 8–10 frontal setae; palpus about 1.5 times as long as pedicel and flagellomere 1 combined. Legs with all setae strong in male; fore tibia with 1–2 p; mid tibia with 2 ad, 2 pd and 1 v; claw and pulvillus shorter than 5th tarsomere. Abdomen more broadly darkened, sides of tergite 3 and venter reddish; syntergite 1+2 without median marginal seta.
