Diagnosis. Rostrum horizontal, sometimes slightly upturned; carapace anterolateral spines evenly tapered, slightly curved inwards. Maxilliped 3 ischium-merus 1.8 times as long as wide; merus mesiodistal margin convex; propodus free distal margin transverse. Major cheliped ischium lower margin with 6–8 oblique spines increasing in length distally; merus lower margin with 5–9 oblique spines diminishing distally; palm as long as wide, upper margin carinate, blade-like along whole length. Minor cheliped merus lower margin with 2 or 3 oblique spines; minor cheliped palm as long as wide; palm rectangular; fingers as long as palm, curved. Uropodal endopod 1.5 times as long as wide; anterior margin evenly convex; posterior margin convex; apex broadly rounded, flat. Uropodal exopod posterior margin almost straight; proximal article with sharp spine overlapping endopod and smaller accessory proximal lobe. Telson tapering to about half basal width from midpoint, 1.5 times as wide as long; posterior margin evenly slightly convex; dorsal surface with 3 or 4 pairs of spiniform setae lateral to longer fine setae on transverse ridge. Size. Cl. to 15 mm.
Distribution. Western, Central and Eastern Indo-Pacific ( Maldives [type locality]; Chagos Archipelago; Indonesia; Tonga; Marianas; Japan, Ryukyus; Fiji; French Polynesia; Hawaii); intertidal, subtidal ( Komai et al. 2015).
Remarks. Corallianassa borradailei was redescribed in detail by Komai et al. (2015) after previously being widely confused with C. coutierei . The species is characterised by the continuous, flange-like carina along the upper margins of the carpus and palm of the major cheliped, the telson tapering only from the midpoint, with pairs of middorsal spiniform setae in addition to fine setae, and the convex mesiodistal margin of the maxilliped 3 merus.
Three females from Hawaii (NHMUK 1859:79) were identified by Manning (1987) who noted the dorsal carina on the palm extending distally into a distinct flange, a feature characterising this species. The same specimens were seen by Ngoc-Ho (2002) and confirmed for this character by Paul Clark (NHMUK; 22 July 2022). Only one further specimen was found in the BPBM collections.
