The genus Proboscitermes was erected for a single species, Eutermes tubuliferous Sjöstedt 1907 . Sjöstedt’s 1925 generic description of the P. tubuliferous soldier is translated from German and modified below to now include P. m c g re w i.
Soldier. Monomorphic. In dorsal view, anterior of head capsule narrows to form a rounded projection (nasus) which extends from mandibular articulations to basal fourth or third of mandible blades; nasus separated from mandibles by a U-shaped gap visible in lateral view; nasus tip with a circular fontanelle opening surrounded by a dense mat of hairs. Fontanelle opening directed about 45˚ below plane of head. Mandibles thin, straight, nearly as long as head capsule, and curved inward at tips, the left mandible with one or two small basal teeth, right adorned with a single small basal tooth. Antennae with 14 articles. Labrum subrectangular with narrow points projecting from anterior corners. Median anterior of pronotum lightly incised.
Winged imago. Unknown. See description of physogastric queen below.
Worker. Detailed description in Sands (1998) is congruent with P. m c g re w i.
