Diagnosis: Aleochara auricoma is very similar to A. prisca (specimens with head darker than pronotum) and differs from it by apical three-fourths of abdominal segment VII distinctly yellowish; tergum X of male with anterior margin strongly arcuate; anterior margin of tergum IX of female without a weakly sclerotized area and tergum X of female with posterior margin deeply emarginate at the middle.

Redescription: BL: 9.0 mm. EW: 2.1 mm. Head black; pronotum bright orange to brownish with dark macula on disc; elytra yellowish to brownish with small dark spot on postero-lateral angle; abdomen black with apical threefourths of tergum VIII to tergum X yellowish to brownish; antennae black or darker than pronotum, sometimes the last antennomere lighter; labial and maxillary palpus black with last palpomeres light brown to yellow; legs light brown to yellow. Dorsal surface glossy and covered with thin golden yellowish setae with setigerous pores impressed.

Head: coarsely setigerous punctation; disc with sparse pubescence directed mediad and anterad. Antennae with antennomere 2 half the length of first and slightly narrower than first; 3 longer than 2; 4 subquadrate to slightly transverse; 5–9 similar in shape, each distinctly transverse; 10 slightly narrower than 9, slightly transverse; 11 twice longer than the previous one, semi-triangular in shape; 1–4 glossy with some long black setae; 5–11 dull and covered by very short white setae, with some long black setae on apex of each antennomere; 11 with long black setae on a transversal circular line in the middle of the antennomere..

Thorax: pronotum with setigerous punctuation; setae directed posterad at the midline of the disc, directed laterad at each anterior half, and posterad and laterad at each posterior half. Mesoventral process truncate to slightly emarginate apically. Elytra with setigerous punctation, denser than pronotum; setae directed posterad. Hind wings somewhat dark.

Abdomen: distinctly narrowed posteriorly, maximum width of tergum X about one-third of apical width of tergum VII; terga with coarsely setigerous punctation, pubescence sparse directed posterad.

Male: tergum VIII wider than long ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 8–13 ); posterior margin slightly arcuate, truncate at the middle, not serrate; some very short setae restricted to posterior margin, but absent near posterior angles. Sternum VIII wider than long; posterior margin broadly rounded and truncate at the middle; posterior margin with fringed area on median three-fifths, many short and dense setae directed anterad ( Fig. 9 View FIGURES 8–13 ). Tergum IX with ventral struts asymmetrical, the left shorter than the right, the left with one accessory short arm directed laterad. Tergum X with anterior margin strongly arcuate and posterior margin slightly emarginate at the middle ( Fig. 10 View FIGURES 8–13 ); Aedeagus: median lobe elongate in dorsal view ( Figs. 12 View FIGURES 8–13 ); base bulbous, ventrally expanded at basal half in lateral view ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 8–13 ); apex acute and toothless ( Figs. 12, 13 View FIGURES 8–13 ).

Female: tergum VIII wider than long, posterior margin slightly curved ( Fig. 14 View FIGURES 14–16 ); some very short setae restricted to posterior margin but absent near posterior angles. Sternum VIII wider than long, but more pointed than in the male; posterior margin broadly rounded but truncate at the middle; posterior margin with fringed area on median-third, many short and dense setae directed anterad ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 14–16 ). Tergum IX without ventral struts. Tergum X with anterior margin truncate and posterior margin deeply emarginate at the middle ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 14–16 ). Spermatheca not found.

Geographical records: Material examined: Brazil (Acre, Amazonas, Pará); and British Guiana ( Essequibo) ( Fig. 75 View FIGURE 75 ).

Natural history: Associated with decayed pig, fish, beef, beef heart, fruits and human feces. Some specimens were collected using Pitfall and Shannon traps.
