Type species. Indopinnixa sipunculana Manning & Morton, 1987 , by monotypy.

Remarks. With regard to the general shape and proportions of the carapace, the two known species of Indopinnixa Manning & Morton, 1987 , are superficially similar to members of Pinnixa White, 1846 , which consists of 56 recognised species (Ng et al. 2008; Komatsu & Takeda, 2009), most of which occur in the Americas. Only five species of Pinnixa are known from the western Pacific: P. balanoglossana Sakai, 1934 , P. haematosticta Sakai, 1934 , P. lata Komatsu & Takeda, 2009 , P. penultipedalis Stimpson, 1858 , P. rathbuni Sakai, 1934 , and P. t u m i d a Stimpson, 1858, all of which occur in Japan (see Komatsu & Takeda 2009). On the basis of the fused male fifth and sixth abdominal somites and proportionately much broader male telson, Manning & Morton (1987) argued that a separate genus should be recognized for their new species, I. sipunculana Manning & Morton, 1987 , from Hong Kong. Davie (1992) agreed with this diagnosis in describing a second Hong Kong species, I. mortoni , and also provided other important carapace, ambulatory leg and third maxilliped differences to distinguish it from the four western Pacific Pinnixa species known up to that time. The generic status of the five Indo-West Pacific Pinnixa species, however, needs to be reappraised, and are unlikely to be congeneric with Pinnixa sensu stricto (type species Pinnotheres cylindricum Say, 1818 ) or Indopinnixa (unpublished data).
