Type material. Holotype 3, CHINA: Mt. Jianfengling (18°26ʹ N, 109°06ʹ E), Hainan Province, 940 m, 4.vi.2007, coll. Zhiwei Zhang and Weichun Li, genitalia slide No. ZL08007 ( NKUM). Paratypes: 2 3, Mt. Jianfeng (18°26ʹ N, 109°06ʹ E), Hainan Province, 11.vi.2010, coll. Bingbing Hu and Jing Zhang ( NKUM).

Diagnosis. This species is distinguished from its congeners by the forewing having a quadrate discocellular stigma on the deep grey ground color and by the cornutus being an irregular quadrangular plate.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 4 ). Wingspan 29.5–30.0 mm. Head yellowish brown, with loose yellowish scale-hairs posterolaterally; antenna white dorsally, brown ventrally; labial palpus creamy white, first segment dark brown dorsally, second segment mixed with brown scales, third segment fuscous ventrally. Thorax brown, tegula brown with white margins. Forewing ground color deep grey, with scattered brown scales, tinged with reddish brown and white scales; broad reddish-brown subcostal stripe of raised scales extending from near base to basal 1/4; broad longitudinal orange-yellow band on basal 1/4, with width about 1/2 that of forewing at base, white-edged on posterior margin, and two tufts of raised reddish-brown scales on distal margin; discal and plical stigmata of raised blackish-brown scales, not distinctively separated, with pale grey spot near its inner margin, edged with white scales on its outer margin; discocellar stigma of raised blackish brown scales, nearly quadrate, with ferrugineous scales on anterior margin, with pale grey scales on inner margin; discontinuous fine black stripe along upper margin of cell; tornus and basal 1/4 of dorsum black; termen blackish, with a white line along inner margin; fringe pale grey, with a series of black shades near base. Hindwing and fringe grey. Abdomen fuscous, segments I–III paler. Legs dominantly blackish brown, except fore-tibia fuscous dorsally, creamy yellow ventrally, covered by fluffy hairlike scales, fore-tarsus white, hind-tibia blackish brown on outside surface, creamy white on inner surface, and hind-tarsus brown annulated with white.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 5 – 8 ). Uncus about 2/3 length of gnathos. Gnathos with distal 1/4 strongly narrowed, curved downwards ventrally, apex pointed and hooked. Valva with costa concave medially; cucullus narrow, length approximately twice basal width, thumb-shaped, slightly narrowed towards rounded apex; harpe small, elliptical. Sacculus large, sclerotized; basal 3/5 broad and subrectangular, slightly widened distally, with distal edge straight; dorsal margin straight, with narrow fold; apical lobe semielliptical, margined with stout setae. Length of juxta about 1/3 that of phallus. Phallus slightly curved, gradually narrowed to narrowly rounded apex; cornutus an irregularly quadrangular plate, tapering distally to pointed apex, length about 1/3 that of phallus, with a basal ridge on both ventral and dorsal margins.

Female unknown.

Biology. The three specimens in the type series were collected in early June. Immature stages are unknown.

Distribution. China (Hainan).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin quadrilaterus = quadrangular, in reference to the shape of the plate-like cornutus.
