Heterachthes noguerai View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 10–12 View FIGURES 7 – 11. 7 – 9 View FIGURES 12 – 15. 12 )

Coloration. Integument dark-brown; mouthparts yellowish-brown; antennae reddish-brown with brown areas; coxae, trochanters, base of peduncle of meso- and metafemora reddish-brown; each elytron with triangular, yellow spot close to suture, from apex of basal quarter to before middle, and reddish-brown band close to suture, from apex of yellow spot to near apex. Setae and pubescence white.

Head. Frons finely rugose-punctate; with short, moderately abundant, decumbent setae, not obscuring integument. Antennal tubercles and area between them with sculpture and pubescence as on frons. Vertex rugosepunctate from area between upper eye lobes to near prothorax (sculpture distinctly coarser than on frons); area closer to prothoracic margin, finely, densely, transversely striate; with short, moderately abundant, decumbent setae, distinctly not obscuring integument, interspersed with some long setae. Area behind eyes coarsely rugosepunctate close to eye (this area wider toward ventral side), finely striate-punctate close to prothorax; with short, sparse, decumbent setae interspersed with long setae on rugose-punctate area, glabrous on striate-punctate area. Longitudinal sulcus distinct from clypeus to about middle of vertex. Submentum coarsely, transversely striate, interspersed with fine punctures; with short, sparse setae interspersed with long setae. Area between lower eye lobes and submentum and on genae coarsely, confluently punctate; with short, moderately sparse setae interspersed with long setae (apex of genae distinctly finer, sparser punctate and glabrous). Distance between upper eye lobes 0.65 times length of scape; distance between lower eye lobes in frontal view 0.75 times length of scape. Antennae 2.0 times elytral length, from scape to apex of antennomere X (missing antennomere XI at left antenna, and antennomeres X–XI at right antenna), reaching elytral apex about middle of antennomere VIII; antennomeres III– VI tumid; antennomere VII curved; scape, pedicel and antennomeres III–IV with long, erect, sparse setae (mainly ventrally); antennomeres V–X with long setae at apex; antennal formula (ratio) based on antennomere III: scape = 0.59; pedicel = 0.13; IV = 0.63; V = 0.76; VI = 0.86; VII = 0.92; VIII = 0.82; IX = 0.77; X = 0.67.

Thorax. Prothorax 1.5 times longer than wide; laterally rounded at middle. Pronotal disc with three tubercles: two small, conical, laterally on anterior half; one larger moderately elongate, placed about center. Pronotal surface shallowly, sparsely punctate; pubescent on transverse basal band (less distinctly centrally), longitudinal band on each side of central tubercle (fused with basal band), and transverse, wide band on center of anterior half (centrally interrupted); with very sparse, erect, long setae. Sides of prothorax coarsely, very sparsely punctate; pubescent interspersed with long setae, except for almost glabrous area close to anterior margin. Prosternum distinctly transversely striate close to prosternal process, slightly transversely striate on remaining surface of basal half, transversely striate on anterior half; with wide, longitudinal band of pubescence (not obscuring integument), from procoxal cavity to about middle; remaining surface with sparse, short setae; with some long, erect setae on anterior half. Ventral side of mesothorax distinctly pubescent laterally, sparser centrally. Metepisterna pubescent. Metasternum coarsely, sparsely punctate; pubescent laterally, distinctly sparsely toward center, interspersed with long, erect, sparse setae. Scutellum densely pubescent.

Elytra. Coarsely, sparsely punctate interspersed with fine punctures; with very long, sparse, erect setae throughout; laterally and on distal half (mainly distal third) with short, decumbent, moderately abundant setae; apex rounded, with sutural angle slightly projected.

Legs. Femora with short, decumbent setae on some regions, glabrous or almost so on other; with long, erect, sparse setae. Metatarsomere I about as long as II–III together.

Abdomen. Ventrites pubescent, interspersed with long, erect, sparse setae; apex of ventrite V slightly rounded.

Dimensions (mm). Total length (including mandibles), 6.65; prothoracic length, 1.60; anterior prothoracic width, 1.00; basal prothoracic width, 0.95; largest prothoracic width, 1.05; humeral width, 1.40; elytral length, 4.20.

Type material. Holotype male from MEXICO, Michoacán de Ocampo: MX 37, 98 km S Nueva Italia, 15.VII.2006, Skillman & Hildebrant col. ( USNM).

Etymology. This new species is named after Felipe Arturo Noguera Martínez (UNAM), for his contribution to the knowledge of Cerambycidae .

Remarks. Heterachthes noguerai sp. nov. differs from H. erineus Martins, 1970 mainly by the elytra not entirely pubescent (densely pubescent in H. erineus ). It differs from H. texanus Linsley, 1957 by the pronotum partially pubescent and with long setae (not pubescent and without long setae in H. texanus ), by the metasternum laterally pubescent (glabrous in H. texanus ), by the abdomen pubescent (glabrous in H. texanus ). It differs from H. w-notatus Linsley, 1935 by the pronotum with three tubercles not very prominent (with 5 distinct tubercles in H. wnotatus ), by the elytral setae longer and sparser (shorter and denser in H. w-notatus ), and by the prothorax longer (1.5 times longer than wide) (shorter, about 1.25 longer than wide in H. w-notatus ).
