Mimonecteola subchelata Vinogradov View in CoL
( Fig. 43)
Mimonecteola subchelata Vinogradov, 1964: 124 View in CoL , fig. 10. Vinogradov et al. 1982: 104–105, fig. 40.
Type material. This species was described from one immature female specimen measuring 8.0 mm, from the tropical Indian Ocean [06°32’S 100°08’E]; Vitjaz Stn. 4918 (?) in a trawl, 4600–0 m. The unique type is in the ZMMU (Mb–1059), on microscope slides.
Diagnosis. According to Vinogradov (1964), known only from one sexually immature female measuring 8.0 mm. Pereopod 4; basis length almost twice merus; carpus length 1.5x merus; propodus length 0.8x carpus; dactylus slightly curved; length slightly more than 0.3x propodus. Pereopod 5 similar in length to P4; basis length 1.6x merus; carpus subequal in length to merus; propodus with convex anterior margin armed with relatively long setae, more densely for distal half, forming a palmate margin to accommodate dactylus, length about 1.2x carpus; dactylus slightly curved, pressed against propodus, length almost half propodus. Pereopod 6 similar in length to P5; basis length 1.4x merus; carpus length 1.2x merus; propodus subequal in length to carpus; dactylus relatively straight, length 0.4x propodus. Pereopod 7; length about 0.7x P6; basis length 2.4x merus; carpus length about 1.3x merus; propodus with weakly developed posterodistal spoon-shaped process; length 1.4x carpus; dactylus relatively straight, partly retractile, length about 0.3x propodus. Telson length 0.8x peduncle of U3.
Colour of living specimen not recorded.
Remarks. I have not seen any specimens of this species but accept its validity based on the observations of Vinogradov (1964).
Its similarity to M. mixta has already been discussed under that species. Distinguishing characters are the relatively longer dactylus and stronger subchela of pereopod 5, the relatively straight dactylus of pereopod 7 and the relatively long telson.
Distribution. Only known from the type locality, the tropical Indian Ocean, off Sumatra [06° 32’S 100° 08’E], trawled in 4600–0 m.
