Diagnosis. This genus can be distinguished from other genera of Banchini by the following combination of character states: labrum less than 0.7 × as long as height of head, not developed into a long tongue; epicnemial carina present ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1–7 ); upper tooth of mandible about same length as lower tooth; lower part of occipital carina joining hypostomal carina above base of mandible; flagellum usually long and slender; laterotergites of T2 and T3 less than 0.3 × as wide as long; anterior end of vein cu-a of fore wing opposite or distad from posterior end of vein Rs+M; ovipositor sheath 0.14 to 1.8 (usually ca. 0.3) × as long as hind tibia (after Townes, 1970).
Distribution. Worldwide excluding the Australasian and Antarctic regions.
Remarks. This genus is the largest genus of Banchini , containing about 168 species ( Riedel, 2015; Sheng et al., 2016; Yu et al., 2016).
