Diagnosis. Mesoscutum with satin-like sheen; phragma freely exposed; scutellar sulcus reduced to a fine groove in which there is no obvious foveolation; female somewhat variable in colour; usually gaster entirely dark, rarely T1, T2 and T3 reddish-yellow; pterostigma yellowish to pale grayish-brown; turned-over part of T1 and basal field (T2+T3) in highly triangle, tending to be highly polished.

Distribution. China (Yunnan, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Shandong) new record; Eastern Palaearctic, Europe, Oceanic, Western Palaearctic region.

Note. This species is recorded from China for the first time. It is a variable species especially in colour. Wilkinson (1938) redescribed the species in detail. The only valid characters for recognizing P. circumscriptus are the shape of basal field of tergites (2+3) together with the smooth, polished appearance of it and turned-over part of T1 ( Nixon, 1973).
