Taxonomy. Original description: Cyprinus pangusia Hamilton, 1822: 285 View in CoL , 386 [Mainai, Kosi River, India; no types known].— Afghanistan synonyms: Gobio pangusia ( Hamilton, 1822) View in CoL .—Revisions: None.—Illustration: Talwar & Jhingran (1991: 216, fig. 77).

Status in Afghanistan. First record from Afghanistan by McClelland (1842: 574) as Cyprinus pangusia ; confirmed by Coad (1981: 11; 2014: 177; 2015: 228).—Afghanistan materials: None.

Distribution and habitat. Distribution in Afghanistan: Kabul River.—General distribution: South Asia: Afghanistan, Himalaya Foothills, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand.—Habitat: This species inhabits mountain streams, rivers, lakes, and ponds. Freshwater.

Economic importance. Commercially important.

Conservation. Conservation status in Afghanistan: Unknown.—IUCN: NT ( Dahanukar 2010c).—Threats: FIT.— Low sensitivity to human activities.—Not considered as a keystone species.—Decline status: Decreasing.— Low priority for conservation action.
