Parapelonides penrosei Barr, 2008: 110 . Holotype ♀ (CASC), MEX, Quintana Roo, 20 km SW Cancún , 27-V-1992, R. L. Penrose.

Diagnosis. Specimens of this species resemble superficially those of P. nigrescens , but in P. penrosei the elytral disc is entirely reddish with no traces of a longitudinal infuscation.

Redescription of Holoype. Size: Length 5.1 mm; width 2.0 mm. Form: As in Fig. 28 View Figs . Integument: Cranium, prothorax, mesoscutellum, elytra, and abdomen reddish, pterothorax mostly reddish but with a black line at sides; antenna black; femora increasingly yellowish from profemur to metafemur; tibiae and tarsi black. Head: Cranium somewhat roughly punctate, interstitial spaces smooth and shiny; eyes narrower than frons (18:33) ommatidia small; funicular antennomeres subfiliform, capitular antennomeres 8 and 9 triangular ( Fig. 14 View Figs ). Thorax: Pronotum slightly elongated (75:80), sides slightly expanded at middle, disc roughly punctate, interstitial spaces smooth and shiny; each elytral disc sculptured with 10 striae composed of asetiferous punctures, 1° setae above asetiferous punctures, interstitial spaces smooth and shiny; epipleural fold broad for most of length but eventually narrowed to elytral apex. Abdomen: Female pygidium evenly rounded distally.
