Neoperla cavaleriei (Navás) View in CoL
( Figs. 88‐90 View Figs )
Ochthopetina cavaleriei Navás, 1922:49 View in CoL . Lectotype ♂ (Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle) designated by Sivec & Zwick, 1987. Kouy‐ Tcheou
Material examined. Vietnam: Cao Bang, Ba Be National Park between gates and dorms, 22 May 1995, D. Currie, J. Swann, M. McGuffin, ROM 956119, 2 ♂ ( ROM). Same site except near dorm annex, 14‐23 May 1995, D. Currie, B. Hubley, J. Swann, ROM 956049, 2 ♂ ( ROM, IEBR). Same site except 20 May 1995, D. Currie, J. Whiting, ROM 956106, 2 ♂ ( ROM, BPS) . Cao Bang, Ba Be , 1 July 1995, C.F. Lee, 11 ♂, 6 ♀ ( PMSL) . Gia Lai, An Khe District, Tram Lap, Azun River , 3 km NE forestry building, 21 June 1996, D. Currie, J. Swann, ROM 961076, 1 ♂ ( ROM) .
Remarks. Sivec & Zwick (1987) redescribed this species from the lectotype and indicated an unusually large range including China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand and Myanmar. The subtle variations in aedeagal armature they note suggests this is a probable species complex which will require more material from throughout this range in order to gain resolution. Our sample shows little variation in aedeagal armature; the aedeagal tube is slender, sclerotized and bears minute spinules on the apical third. The sac has a prominent dorsobasal spiny cushion, a mid dorsal row of medium size spines and three irregular lateral rows of larger, cultriform spines imbedded proximal to a ventral grouping of fine spinules. Figs. 88‐90 View Figs show the first SEM images for the egg of this species.
