Aphodius (Paracrossidius) Balthasar, 1932: 30 –32. Type species: Aphodius (Paracrossidius) instigator Balthasar, 1932 (by
monotypy).
Diagnosis. Species of length 5–12 mm; body convex, oblong oval. Clypeus rounded or straight, not emarginate anteriorly. Frontoclypeal suture without tubercles. Base of pronotum not bordered; sides with thick, keel-shaped border. Scutellum triangular. Structure of elytra variable, elytral intervals more-or-less distinctly convex, surface of intervals and striae punctate; elytra in some species setaceous, sometimes covering entire surface of elytra. Mesotibiae and tarsi and metatibiae and tarsi long, with long setae. Protibiae with 3 outer teeth. Apical setae of mesotibiae and metatibiae long, unequal in length. Sexual dimorphism distinct, males with much larger heads than females, and in males the setae on elytra often covers a significantly larger area than in females.
Distribution. China, Mongolia, Nepal, Russia.
