Thinodromus pustulatus ( Bernhauer 1904a: 20) (Oxytelinae) View in CoL

Distribution. Vietnam.

Bernhauer (1904a: 20), described this species from Annam [An Nam Trung Bo] in the central region of Vietnam but later Bernhauer and Schubert (1911: 96) cited Brazil without citing Vietnam. It is obviously an unintentional mistake of the authors and Brazil should not be considered as part of its distribution.

Xybaris troglocera Reitter 1882a: 144 (Pselaphinae) View in CoL

Distribution. Colombia.

Reitter (1882a: 144) described this species from Ubaque [in Cundinamarca state], Columbia. Camillo Schaufuss (1888: 97) was apparently the first to list this species as occurring in Brazil, and was followed by subsequent authors ( Blackwelder 1944: 93; Park 1942: 179; Raffray 1904b: 211; Raffray 1908a: 215; Raffray 1911: 85. Newton et al. (2005: 39) pointed out that the record for Brazil is an error based on the literature.

Species with doubtful records from Brazil

Sharp in his publication of the Staphylinidae of the Amazon basin discribed five species Coproporus conformis Sharp 1876c: 89 , Ochthephilum triste ( Sharp 1876c: 223) , Stamnoderus insignis ( Sharp 1876c: 303) , Stenus excisus Sharp 1876c: 372 and, Phloeonomus nanus ( Sharp 1876c: 402) . In the original descriptions the specific locality was not cited, with subsequent authors attributing these records to Brazil, but as doubtful (see the locality records for each species in the body of this publication). However all of these species were captured by the English botanist Trail [James William Helenus Trail] on the 5th November 1874; during his first trip to Brazil. Considering that on 5th Novembre of the same year, Trail captured a series of individuals of Lepidoptera Epidromia negata (Walker) , Epidromia distincta Butler , Ceromacra tymber (Cramer) , and Argidia subvelata (Walker) from Pupunha [-5.101241, -67.199091], a small town on the margin of the Juruá river, and described by Butler (1879: 53 -55,59). Therefore, Pupunha in the Amazon state of Brazil is here treated as the type locality for the species of Staphylinidae listed above.
