Rhinoecetes View in CoL ? rhinoceros Just, 2012
Material examined. NE of Townsville, Queensland, Australia, 18°30'S, 146°40'E, 41 m, muddy sand, dredge, Poore & Lew Ton, 24 November 1982, stn. AIMS 6, NMV J9565 (1 damaged Ƥ with oostegites, 3.5 mm).
The single female is similar to 2 males from Moreton Bay off Brisbane tentatively referred to Rhinoecetes rhinoceros in Just (2012, fig. 7MBc lv) on account of the characteristic upcurved rostrum. Like the Moreton Bay specimens, this female is about half the size of similarly developed females from the type locality near Sydney. It still is not possible to ascertain if these ‘miniature’ specimens ought to be recognised as a separate species.
