Type material. Holotype – USA, Oregon, Benton Co., McGlynn Cr. Ravine, moss on bank, 23.01.1977, leg. Russel, L. (slide CNCAZ 0395 – 1 female).

Diagnosisoffemale. Centralandsubmarginalsetaeofpodonotum smooth, includingj2, setaez3 elongate, pilose. Eachmarginalsetasimilar inappearance, denselypilose, brush-like. Centralandsubmarginalsetaeof opisthonotumsmooth, needle-like. GlandsPo2 inposition gdS2, onlineS2 and S3, Po 3 in position gdJ3, on line connecting J3 and J4. Anterior surface of podonotalshieldcoveredbyscalespossessinglacyposteriormargin. Surface ofopisthonotumsmooth. Posterodorsalcavitiesunifrom, weaklydeveloped. Posterolateraltipsofperitrematalshieldsfusedwithventrianalshieldonlev- el of setae R3.

Descriptionoffemale. Lengthofidiosoma: 344 μm; width: 295 μm (n = 1).

Dorsal side ( Fig. 77 View Figs 77–80 ). Podonotum with 20 pairs of setae, j1–6, z2–6, s1–6, r2 and r4–5 inserteddorsally, r1 andr3 insertedventrally, onperitrematalshields. Setaez3, s2, r2, s3, r4–5 ands6 moderatelylong, brush-like, denselypilose. Setaej1 shorterthanprevioussetae, barbed. Otherpodonotalsetaeshort, smoothandneedle-like. Setaes5 situatedonlevel Figs 65–76. Microzercon mahunkai sp. n.: 65–66 = tritosternums of female, 67 = gnathosoma of female, 68–69 = chelicerae of female, 70 = chelicera of male, 71–73 = epistomes of female,

of z6. Glands gds1 (po1) situated posterior to insertions of s1; gdj4 (po2) situated below line connecting j4 and z4, equidistantly; gds4 (po3) lateral to line connecting s4 and s5, near s5. Anterior surface of podonotal shield covered by scales possessing lacy posterior margin, a small area of the posterocentral surface without ornamentation.

Opisthonotumwith 22 pairsofsetae: J1–5, Z1–5 andS1–5, marginalR-serieswith sevenpairsofsetae. SetaeJ1–5, Z1–4 andS2–5 similarinappearance, smooth, pointed, needle-like. SetaeJ2 reachinginsertionsofJ3, J3 reachingJ4, otherJ-setaenotreaching basesofthefollowingoneoftheseries. SetaeJ5 situatedonlevelofcentraldorsalcavities. Setae Z4 situated somewhat medial to line connecting Z3 and S5. Setae S2 situated anterior toS3. SetaeZ5, S1 andR1–6 brush-like, denselypilose, R7 somewhatshorterthanprevious setae, bent, pointed, pilose. NoneofS-setaereachingbeyondmarginsofopisthonotum. LengthofopisthonotalsetaeanddistancesbetweentheirinsertionsasinTable 9. Glands gdZ1 (Po1) situatedanteromedialtoinsertionsofZ1; gdS2 (Po2) situatedlateraltolineconnecting S2 and S3, equidistantly; glands Po3 on line connecting J3 and J4; gdS5 (Po4) on lineconnectingJv5 andS5, equidistantly. Marginalserrationdeep, obtuse. Opisthonotal surfacewithoutornamentation. Posterodorsalcavitiesuniform, weaklydeveloped. Lateral pairofcavitiessituatedanteriortocentralpair, betweeninsertionsofJ5 andZ4.

Ventralside ( Fig. 78 View Figs 77–80 ). Peritrematalandventrianalshieldsfusedwithbodymargins. Posterolateraltipsofperitrematalshieldsfusedwithlateralpartsofventrianalshieldon levelofsetaeR3. Ornamentationofperitrematalshieldsweaklydeveloped. Peritremes finelycurved, withasmalldilationnearstigmata. Peritrematalsetaer1 andr3 short, smoothandneedle-like. Tritosternumwithtwoslender, apicallybifurcate, marginallypi- loselaciniae, tritosternalbasevase-like. Sternalshield 53 μmlongand 35 μmwideatthe levelofsetaest2, withnearlystraightposteriormargin, withweaklydevelopedreticulate ornamentation. Sternalsetaesmoothandneedle-like. Glands gv1 situatedmedialtosetaest3. Genitalshieldtypicalforthefamily, withafewsutures, genitalsetaesmoothand needle-like. Glands gv2 present, withdoubleopeningssurroundedbysmalladgenitalsclerites. Ventrianalshieldwithsmoothandneedle-likesetae, setaeZv1 absent. Adanalsetae, Jv3–4 andpostanalseta 1.5–2 timeslongerthanotherpreanalsetae. SetaeJv5 moderately long, brush-like, denselypilose. Analvalveswithvestigialeuanalsetae. Glands gv3 situatedlateralorslightlyanterolateraltoadanalsetae. Anteriorsurfaceofventrianalshield coveredbytile-likepatterntolevelofJv3–Zv4.

Gnathosoma. Situationofhypostomalandsubcapitularsetaetypicalforthefamily. Setae h1 elongate, apically tapering, smooth. Setae h2 shorter than h1, h3 shorter than h2, eachsmooth. Setaeh4 slightlylongerthanh2, proximallyserrate. Corniculihorn-like, internalmalaewithapairofbifurcateanterocentralbranchesandwithserratemargins. Chelicerae ( Fig. 79 View Figs 77–80 ) relativelyslender, fixeddigitwith 5–6 teeth, movabledigitwith 4–5 teeth. Epistome of Prozercon - type ( Fig. 80 View Figs 77–80 ).

Etymology. The name of the new species refers to its smooth dorsal setae and the

smoothopisthonotalshield.
