Material examined. HOLOTYPE male, JAPAN, Nansei Islands , Amami Oshima (Amami Is), Shinmura, 24.III.1954, T. Mohri ( USNM) . Non-type material: JAPAN: [Nansei Islands] Amami Is: 1 male, Setouchi-chô, Shinokawa, Yakugachi-gawa River , Alt. 130 m, 3.IV.2019 , D. Kato ( BLKU); 1 male, Setouchi-chô, Agina, Agina-gawa River , Alt. 110 m, 3.IV.2019 , D. Kato ( BLKU); Tokunoshima Is: 1 male, Tokunoshima-chȏ, Todoroki , near Mt. Sasontsuji-dake , Alt. 200 m, 2.IV.2019 , D. Kato ( BLKU); Okinawa Is: 3 males, Nago-shi, Genka , Mt. Ubashi-yama , Alt. 100 m, 12.III.2016 , D. Short description. General coloration brown to dark brown ( Fig. 1A View FIGURE 1 ). Head. Dark greyish brown. Antenna about four times as long as head.

Thorax. Weakly pale between scutal lobes and on postpronotum and metapleura. Prescutum sometimes with four indistinctly dark stripes. Wing ( Fig. 1B View FIGURE 1 ) tinged with dark brown, indistinctly patterned: origin and fork of Rs, crossvein Sc-r, and stigma vaguely dark. Legs mainly dusky yellow, without dark femoral band. Halter yellowish at base of stem.

Abdomen. Sternites yellowish. Male terminalia ( Figs 1C–G View FIGURE 1 ) with outer gonostylus dorsoventrally flattened, bearing small apical spine and subapical lobe on outer margin; apical inner edge angulated at right angle with round- ed corner ( Fig. 1D View FIGURE 1 ). Paramere with mesal-apical lobe flat finger-shaped, about 1.5 times as long as lateral lobe ( Fig. 1G View FIGURE 1 ). Aedeagus about five times as long as wide in lateral view, curved posteriorly near base; tip ending proximal to tip of mesal-apical lobe ( Figs 1E–F View FIGURE 1 ). Apodeme of vesica directed anteroventrally ( Fig. 1F View FIGURE 1 ).

Measurements. Male (n = 22): body length: 4.1–5.5 mm; wing length: 4.8–6.2 mm. Female (n = 2): body length: 6.0– 7.2 mm; wing length: 5.5–6.6 mm.

Distribution. Japan (Nansei islands: Amami, Tokunoshima, and Okinawa islands) ( Fig. 13A View FIGURE 13 ).

Remarks. This species is somewhat similar to E. verrucosa in terms of general appearance but is distinguished from it by the following characters: male tergite 8 straight at caudal margins (bearing rectangular lobe at middle of caudal margins in E. verrucosa ).
