= Pinguicula loxensis Bonpland View in CoL in Humboldt & Bonpland (1806 –1823: 22), nom. nud.
Note:— Pinguicula calyptrata was firstly referred as Pinguicula loxensis Bonpl. ( Humboldt & Bonpland 1806 –1823: 22) and this name also appears in Humboldt & Bonpland (1805), but it was never validly published or used otherwise (see Casper, 2003 for further discussion on this topic). Humboldt and Bonpland seem to have been the first collectors who consistently numbered their plant material in the field ( Lack 2001); nevertheless, in the work Nova genera et species plantarum ( Bonpland & Humboldt 1817), the authors did not link any specimen to the new names published for Pinguicula . The herbarium of the National Museum of Natural History in Paris (MNHN-P), which keeps the Bonpland’s private herbarium of the collections made by Humboldt and Bonpland in America (P-Bonpl), holds three specimens of P. calyptrata from this expedition. Two of these specimens were cited by Casper (1966), the first one as “ holotype ” (P00670050) kept in the general herbarium P, and the second as “Dupl. in herbaria Bonpland-P” (P00603424). Those specimens certainly resulted from a single gathering according to the locality (Loxa) and collector number (3319); on the other hand, the third specimen (P00603425), in spite of bearing a handwritten label by Bonpland, lacks collector number, and the information on locality is different ( Pérou) which makes it difficult its recognition as isolectotype. Because of this, we agree with Casper’s selection and the specimens P00670050 and P00603424 are here corrected to lectotype and isolectotype respectively.
