Note:—A. Michaux, in his Flora Boreali-Americana (1803), did not cite any particular specimens for Pinguicula View in CoL ’s new names; therefore, Michaux’s names lectotypification is necessary. Regarding his currently accepted names (i.e. Pinguicula pumila View in CoL ), he just referred to an indeterminate location associated to the habitat cited in the protologue (see locality above). During our searches for Michaux’s material, we have traced a specimen at MNHN-P (Herbier de l’Amérique septentrionale d’André Michaux) in which is stamped “Type”, but it has no information on locality and collector; it just bears a handwritten identification label stating: “ Pinguicula pumila View in CoL ”. In spite of that, comparing the label’s handwriting with other Michaux’s specimens linked to new names published in the same work, this specimen can be ascribed to Michaux. Considering that the specimen has no information on either locality or habitat we could not be sure that it was used for the description of the new species, therefore it is difficult to recognize it as either an original material or a syntype according to Arts. 9.3 and 9.5 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012) respectively. Because of that, and since the specimen is in accordance with Michaux’s diangnosis “P. scapo brevi, glabello: corolla parvula, dilute violacea; oblongiuscule tubulata; calcare tubo breviore”, we have selected it as a neotype according to Arts. 9.7, 9.11 and 9.13 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012).
