Pinguicula ramosa Miyoshi (1890: 1 View in CoL , pl. 11)
Protologue locality:—Mount Kōshin in the province of Shimotsuke.
Type (lectotype, designated here):— [ JAPAN]. Yashu , Koshin-zan, 9 August 1890, M. Miyoshi s.n. ( TI s.n. [digital photo!], stamped “Typus”, isolectotype TI s.n. [digital photo!]; Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ) .
≡ Pinguicula villosa Linnaeus (1753: 17) var. ramosa (Miyoshi) Tamura (1953: 31) View in CoL .
= Pinguicula ramosa Miyoshi f. albiflora Komiya & Shibata (1980: 166) View in CoL . Type (holotype):—[ JAPAN]. Mt. Kôshinzan, 1973, S. Komiya s.n. (NDC No. 2514).
Note:—When Miyoshi (1890: 1) described P.ramosa View in CoL , he referred to a plant that he found on August 9 th, 1890 at Mount Koshin in the province of Shimotsuke, Japan. He also reports that the flowering season was over and he intended to visit the local on next year to see the plants in flower and complete the description. Two specimens related to the first finding are housed at the Herbarium of the University of Tokyo (TI, formely Science College of the Imperial University), and a third specimen collected by Miyoshi in July, 1891 is kept at the Herbarium of the National Museum of Natural Sciences, Tsukuba (TNS No. 53290). None of these specimens have flowers; therefore, it seems that Miyoshi did not include the flower characters in any further publication. Due to the collection date and the citation appearing on the protologue, both TI specimens are considered original material according to Art. 9.3(a) of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012). One of the specimens traced at TI is stamped “Typus”, however, Miyoshi did not designate any specific material as holotype and both specimens on TI should be considered syntypes according to Art. 9.5 of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012), since Tamura (1953: 31) did not typified Miyoshi’s name when he published the name Pinguicula villosa var. ramosa View in CoL as a new combination for P. ramosa View in CoL . Hence, we have selected the TI specimen stamped “Typus” as lectotype and the second specimen at TI is referred as isolectotype following Rec. 9C of the ICN ( McNeill et al. 2012).
