Diagnosis: Cephalothorax longer than wide, cephalic region flat and low, widest behind the dorsal eyes. Eye region occupying little more than one-third of the cephalothorax; ocular trapezium about 1.5 times broader than long, parallel sided. Chelicerae with one tooth on inner margin and two teeth on outer margin. Sternum narrowed in front. Legs usually 1423 in the male and 4132 in female. In both sexes tibiae and matatarsi I and 11 provided with three and two pairs of ventral spines respectively.
Type-species: Marpissa muscosa Clerck.
Distribution: Cosmopolitan.
