Iphidozercon Berlese View in CoL
Iphidozercon Berlese, 1903: 246 . Type species Eviphis (?) gibbus Berlese, 1903 , by monotypy.
Lindquist & Evans (1965) placed Iphidozercon in the family Ascidae and subfamily Arctoseiinae . Since that time, many new genera of Ascidae have been described, and the family placement of other genera has been changed, without an overall review of the subfamily and tribe classification of the family. Also, many of the genera that were previously included in the Ascidae are now placed in the Melicharidae and Blattisociidae ( Walter 2006; Krantz & Walter 2009). For those reasons, we follow Halliday et al. (1998) in not attempting to use a subfamily or tribe level classification of genera of Ascidae . Within the Ascidae in the narrow sense of Walter (2006) and Krantz & Walter (2009), the genus Iphidozercon may be defined as follows:
Diagnosis (female). Dorsal shield entire, completely covering dorsal idiosoma, without lateral incisions, vertex strongly arched downwards, setae j1 usually not visible from above; shield with 18 pairs of podonotal and 14 pairs of opisthonotal setae, all smooth and pointed. Anterior ends of peritremes sharply recurved postero-ventrally. Sternal shield with three pairs of setae and three pairs of pores; metasternal setae free in soft integument. Genital setae inserted in membrane lateral to genital shield. Anal shield with one pair of para-anal setae and unpaired post-anal seta. Lateral margins of deutosternal groove indistinct or absent. Palp tarsus with one macroseta. Legs I–IV with pre-tarsus and claws. Leg chaetotaxy reduced: genu II with nine or ten setae; genu III with seven setae, pv 1 absent; genu IV with seven setae, al 2, pd 3 absent; tibia III with seven setae, al 2 absent; tibia IV with seven setae, al 2, pl 2, pd 3 absent; tarsi II–IV with one (al 1) or two (al 1, pl 1) dorso-lateral subapical setae very slender and elongate.
