Thiotricha eborinicosta sp. nov.

( Figs 7E View FIGURE 7 , 23L View FIGURE 23 , 30F View FIGURE 30 )

Type material. Holotype ♂, CHINA, Hainan Province, Limushan forest park (19.10°N, 109.44°E), 607 m, 15.v.2015, leg. Peixin Cong, Wei Guan and Sha Hu, genitalia slide no. LGE16283 GoogleMaps . Paratype. CHINA: Zhejiang Province: 1 ♂, Wuyanling , 1000 m, Taishun County, 3.viii.2005, leg. Yunli Xiao, genitalia slide no. LGE18105 .

Diagnosis. Thiotricha eborinicosta can be recognized by the dark fuscous forewing marked with creamy white streaks and a termen patch. The male genitalia are diagnosed by the small uncus, the spatulate distal part of valva and the strongly elongated conjunction between the valva and the juxta. The species is closely related to T. parvunca , and the differences between two species are given under the latter species.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 7E View FIGURE 7 ). Wingspan 9.5−10.0 mm. Head creamy-yellow, slightly mixed with grey or fuscous. Labial palpus creamy-yellow, mixed with fuscous on ventral surface; segment III slightly shorter than II, pointed at apex. Antenna creamy-yellow; flagellum fuscous except base and ventral surface creamy-yellow, male cilia as long as diameter. Thorax fuscous. Tegula dark grey to fuscous, sometimes tinged with creamy-yellow anteriorly. Forewing dark fuscous, anterior edge of costa black; from base to distal 1/3 of costa creamy white, extends obliquely outward as a costal streak; beyond and parallel to this a short creamy white streak, bordered outwardly by black scales; from before apex to termen a creamy white costal streak, bordered outwardly by apical spot; between the costal streaks filled with brown scales; apical spot small, elongated; from outer margin of discal cell a short, creamy white longitudinal median line; below this a shorter, creamy white streak, nearly parallel to median line; termen with a large creamy white patch, semielliptical, bordered anteriorly with a black line; below the black line a small, black terminal spot near apex; fringe dark fuscous, mixed with black on apical area, broadly mixed with creamy white along termen. Hindwing and fringe dark fuscous. Legs creamy-yellow, tarsus with first tarsomere fuscous at middle, remaining tarsomeres fuscous basally; fore leg fuscous on outer surface, mid and hind legs slightly mixed with fuscous on outer surface.

Male sternum VIII ( Fig. 23L View FIGURE 23 ). Broad, gradually narrowed from base, truncate posteriorly.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 30F View FIGURE 30 ). Uncus small, with long setae, gradually narrowed from base to apex, rounded apically. Gnathos hook long, slightly curved apically. Tegumen approximately 3.5 times as long as uncus, anterior margin deeply concave. Valva with base narrow, gradually widening to 2/3, spatulate and setose in distal 1/3, rounded apically; conjunction between extreme base of valva and juxta strongly elongate and angled, forming a triangular process. Anellus lobe 2/5 length of valva, clavate, slightly curved inward; apical bristle slightly shorter than 1/2 length of anellus lobe. Juxta with a subtriangular process basally, sparsely setose medially. Vinculum simple, slender. Saccus triangular, blunt at apex, slightly exceeding tegumen pedunculus. Aedeagus with base dilated, gradually narrowed from base to near apex, dorsal surface with a semicircular extension at middle, blunt at apex.

Female unknown.

Distribution. China (Hainan, Zhejiang).

Etymology. The species name is derived from Latin eborinus (cream-colored) and costa (costa), referring to the creamy white costa of forewing.

Remarks. Thiotricha eborinicosta is Thiotricha sp. 3 in Lee et al. (2021) for the phylogenetic study of Thiotrichinae . The genetic sequences for the species are available from GenBank.
