Diagnosis. Superficially, T. pediformis could be confused with T. lumnitzeriella described from Japan, and the new species can be separated from the latter by the male genitalia: the valva is almost uniformly elongate from base to near apex and the juxta is more strongly convex in T. pediformis whereas the valva is slightly narrowed medially and the juxta is broadly convex in T. lumnitzeriella . The forewing markings of T. pediformis are also somewhat similar to those of T. lata , T. emarginata and T. parvimaculata , but a short longitudinal streak present near the tornus of T. lata and T. emarginata are absent in T. pediformis , and the costal streak of T. pediformis is longer and reaches the apical spot compared to T. parvimaculata . The female genitalia of T. pediformis are characterized by the narrowly U-shaped anterior margin of sternum VIII and the base of ductus bursae with a linear sclerite.
Description. Adult ( Fig. 9D View FIGURE 9 ). Wingspan 7.0−11.0 mm. Head glossy white. Labial palpus white, with segment I very short; segment III fuscous ventrally and apically, slightly longer than II. Antenna with scape glossy white;
flagellum dark fuscous except basal 1/3 or 1/4 of dorsal surface white, male cilia as long as diameter. Thorax and tegula glossy white. Forewing glossy white, sometimes strongly mixed with cream, anterior edge of costa usually black in basal half, markings dark fuscous: a somewhat wedge-shaped costal streak from between distal 1/4 and 1/3 of wing, attenuated distally, obliquely running toward apex and nearly reaching apical spot, followed by and often confluent with a shorter costal streak extended from distal 1/5 of wing; beyond this mixed dark fuscous and white scales before apex, often forming a triangular patch; apical spot round, sometimes shortly extending along termen; sometimes with a grey suffusion along dorsum from near base to basal 1/2 or 2/3 of wing, followed by an inwardly directed V-shaped marking, the upper fork of this nearly reaching apical spot and sometimes confluent with costal streaks, the lower fork much shorter and running along fold; fringe on apical area white with subterminal and terminal black bands, produced downwards and bifurcate; fringe on termen grey except basal half white, near apex with a row of coarse metallic fuscous ciliation; fringe on dorsum grey. Hindwing grey except subapex white and apex black; fringe whitish grey except apical area white with a terminal black band. Legs as in T. emarginata except fore coxa with or without weak suffusion of fuscous scales.
Abdominal segments ( Figs 27E View FIGURE 27 , 28C View FIGURE 28 ). In male, sternum VIII approximately 1/5 length of abdomen, lateral margins broadly concave, leading to deeply bifid posterior apex, inner margin of two tines forming a V-shape, its apex somewhat rounded; tergum VIII semielliptical, bearing long coremata bilaterally. In female, posterior margin of tergum VII shortly sclerotized, bearing a bundle of stiff scales directed toward abdominal base.
Male genitalia ( Figs 43A, I View FIGURE 43 ). Uncus broad, mitre-shaped. Gnathos hook long and very slender. Tegumen 1.5 times as long as uncus, with a median line near anterior margin. Valva broadened after base, then almost uniformly elongate to near apex; apex expanded, somewhat pediform, with a round indentation on costa. Anellus lobe very short, constricted at base, oval after base, sparsely setose apically. Juxta broadly convex in basal 2/3. Vinculum simple. Saccus short and very slender, not exceeding tegumen pedunculus. Aedeagus narrowing from base to apex, constricted at middle and before apex, respectively, shortly bifid apically.
Female genitalia ( Fig. 59F View FIGURE 59 ). Papillae anales weakly sclerotized.Apophyses anteriores approximately 2/3 length or slightly shorter than apophyses posteriores. Sternum VIII longer than tergum VIII, weakly sclerotized except anterior and posterior margins; anterior margin produced in U-shape. Ostium bursae opening near anterior margin of sternum VIII. Ductus bursae narrow in posterior 1/3 or 1/4, with a very slender linear sclerite arising from base and reaching colliculum; colliculum situated near base, ductus seminalis arising from posterior 1/3 or 1/4. Corpus bursae elliptical, 1.5–2 times as long as ductus bursae; signum rounded, consisting of minute denticles, placed at posterior 1/4 or 1/3.
Variations. Specimens from Xizang tends to be yellower.
Distribution. China (Anhui, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan Hunan, Jiangxi, Xizang, Yunnan, Zhejiang).
Etymology. The species name is derived from Latin, pedis (foot) and forma (shape), referring to the pediform apex of valva.
