Diagnosis. As for the type and only species.

Derivation of name. The genus name Wilsonium is in honour of palaeoichthyologist Mark V. H. Wilson, for his contributions to Eocene freshwater fish research and decades of collecting catostomid fossils in western Canada and USA.

Occurrence. Eocene, western Canada.
