Description. Colour. Green or greenish yellow. Frontoclypeus pale brown. Ocelli yellowish white. Eyes brown or red brown. Forewings dark brown and veins brown in male, female veins greenish.
Body length, male 4.7–5.2 mm to the tip of the forewing, female 5.2–5.8 mm to the tip of forewing, 5.8–6.4 mm to the end of ovipositor. Vertex broadly rounded anteriorly. Ocellus close to corresponding eye. Male vertex length: interocular width: pronotal length ratio of 0.60: 0.87: 0.62, female 0.64: 1.0: 0.76. Pronotum slightly wider than head.
Male genitalia: Subgenital p late with 3–4 setae laterally. Pygofer side truncate apically. Aedeagus with pair of flattened terminal processes, about 4/5 as long as shaft, curving anteriorly; shaft slightly S-shaped; gonopore subapically; dorsal apodeme slightly developed.
Female genitalia: Ovipositor extending beyond pygofer 1.5 times its width. Seventh sternum with subtriangular medial projection and 2 deep lateral notches.
Distribution. Oriental Region.
Remarks. Matsumura (1912) established this species for only 2 female specimens (one from Taiwan), and the male was unknown. Although Morrison (1973) described T. nitobei based on the type material, he confused it with T. porrecta . Huang (1989) also misidentified T. nitobei as T. porrecta . It is apparent that the two species were confused, because their genitalia are distinct. Though they are similar, Thomsonia nitobe i can be easily distinguished from T. porrecta in having a shorter aedeagal shaft, asymmetric terminal aedeagal processes, weakly developed dorsal apodeme, and a W-shaped medial projection on the posterior margin of female sternum seven.
This species was reported by Cai & Wang (2004) to feed on mulberry ( Moraceae : Morus sp.).
