Distribution. Western Atlantic—USA (Massachusetts) to Panama, Mexico (Gulf of Mexico and Yucatan), West Indies, Brazil (Maranhão, Pernambuco, Bahia, São Paulo) ( Williams 1984; Christoffersen 1998; Coelho et al. 2006).

Previous records. locality not mentioned ( Christoffersen 1998).

Remarks. São Paulo state was referred as the southern limit of the distribution of T. carolinense by Christoffersen (1998); however, details regarding the source of that information have not been provided.
