Diagnosis. Rostrum well developed, acute, extending to distal border of scaphocerite, dorsal margin with 7 to 9 teeth regularly divided, ventral margin convex and unarmed. Stylocerite broad, acute, intermediate and distal segments small, subequal; upper flagellum biramous, proximal four and five segments fused. Scaphocerite with distal tooth not reaches the apex of lamella. Carapace only with antennal spine. Mandible without palp and incisor process strongly reduced in size. First pereopods moderately robust, exceeding rostral tip by distal margin of carpus. Second pereopods strongly unequal. Major pereopod with a strong tooth on the cutting edge and finger smaller than palm. Minor pereopod with finger longer than the palm, cutting edge unarmed. Third to fifth pereopods with bifid dactyli. Abdomen with pleura of first five somites rounded. Telson with 3 pairs of dorsal spines and 3 pairs of spines on posterior margin.

Distribution. Western Atlantic: USA (Florida [Atlantic coast]), Bahamas (Cay Sal bank) Panama (Cayo Solarte), Tobago (Man-O-War-Bay) Gulf of Mexico (Sackett bank), Bermuda, Dry Tortugas, Venezuela, Brazil (Maranhão, Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte, Pernambuco [Fernando de Noronha], Alagoas, Espírito Santo) ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 ) ( Armstrong, 1940, Holthuis, 1951; Coelho-Filho, 2006; Coelho et al., 2006; Alves et al., 2008; Anker & De Grave, 2010).

Material examined. ESPÍRITO SANTO. (20°42’47”S, 35°27’41”W), 1 male (MNRJ-19457).

Ecological notes. The species is found at depths between 15 and 78 m, in calcareous algae, graves funds associated with a variety of sponges and possibly also occurs shallow waters ( Armstrong, 1940; Coelho & Ramos, 1972; Ramos-Porto & Coelho, 1990; Bezerra & Coelho, 2006; Anker & De Grave, 2010).
