Type species of genus: Aradacanthia multicalcarata A. Costa, 1864
Diagnosis: Small sized. Body ovate; head, pronotum, scutellum, and exterior margins of connexiva with rows of tubercles or spines; disc of scutellum with dispersed punctures. Head shorter than width across eyes; anterior process subtrunctate anteriorly, lateral borders converging backward, gena well developed, contiguous in front of clypeus; antenniferous tubercles stout, diverging apically; eyes semiglobose, protruding laterally; postocular borders convergent, with tubercles; antennae as long or shorter than width of head across eyes (Fig. 1), segment IV with dispersed dots (Figs. 5, 6); rostrum arising from a round opening of atrium (Fig. 4). Pronotum less than three times as wide as long at midline; collar broad; anterior angle protruding laterally; lateral margins strongly concave at middle, posterior margin slightly convex medially. Scutellum large, tonguelike. Hemelytra almost covered by scutellum, exterior margins of corium exposed and visible from above, narrow. Legs short, slender; trochanters distinct, fore tibia with small comb subapically, claws with pseudopulvilli (Fig. 7). Lateral margins of abdomen rounded; deltg I and VIII reduced, triangular; paratergites VIII of female clavate, stout (Fig. 1). Metathoracic scent gland not discernable; stridulatory apparatus present along outer posterior margin of metapleuron. Sterna III to VI flat; glabrous areas 1:1:1.
