Diagnosis: The species is very similar to Coenosia nigrotincta Hennig. The new species can be recognised as follows: scutum with 2 brownish very diffuse longitudinal vittae, lower calypter scarcely longer than upper one, anterior presutural dc well developed, strong and 1/2–2/3 times as long as posterior seta, tergites 2–4 with triangular spots (indistinct in female), mid femur with 5–6 strong av in basal half, and different terminalia.

Etymology: The species name is based on the type-locality, the Ukok plateau.

Type material examined: Holotype 3, Respublika Altay, Ukok plateau, environs of Muzdy-Bulak lake, 2600–2900m, 49º17'N 87º39'Е, 1.07.2005, V. Sorokina ( SZNM). Paratypes 4 3 3 Ƥ, Respublika Altay, Ukok plateau, environs of Muzdy-Bulak lake, 2600m, 49º17'N 87º39'Е, 26.06.2005, A. Barkalov ( SZNM); 1 3, Respublika Altay, Ukok plateau, 6km NE Maitobe mountain, 2600–2800m, 49°34'N 87°43'E, 8.07.2006, V. Sorokina ( SZNM).

Description: Male: body 5.5–5.7mm, wing 5.0– 5.5mm.

Head: Ground-colour black. Fronto-orbital plate, parafacial and gena densely whitish-grey pruinose. Eyes widely separated by a black frontal vitta. Frontal triangle grey dusted, not reaching middle of frons. Ocellar triangle slightly shining around ocellus. Frons with 4 pairs of strong frontal setae, and with a short thin seta between these setae. Mouthedge not projecting beyond level of profrons ( Fig. 13 View FIGURE 13. C E). Width of parafacial about 2/3 of width of postpedicel. Height of gena about 2 times width of postpedicel. Antenna black, postpedicel ca. 2.5 times as long as wide. Arista black, short-pubescent, with longest individual hairs a little shorter than basal diameter of arista. Palpus black. Proboscis long, shining, with strong apical teeth.

Thorax: Black, densely grey dusted. Prosternum bare. Ground-setulae of postpronotal lobe setulose, not spinulose. Scutum with 2 brownish very diffuse longitudinal vittae and with an indistinct brownish vitta between ph and ps seta on each side. Presutural acr in 2 uneven rows; 2 + 3 dc, anterior presutural dc well developed, strong and about 1/2–2/3 as long as posterior seta. Two proepisternal setae. Apical and basal scutellars well developed and equal in length.

Legs: All femora black, trochanters brown; tibiae yellowish-brown, apical 1/2 or 2/3 darkened and sometimes visibly black, basal 1/2 or 1/3 yellow; all tarsomeres black. Pulvilli elongate. Fore tibia with 1 strong long p. Mid femur with a complete row of pv, 5–6 av in basal half, with 1 strong a and 2 strong p preapical setae. Mid tibia with 1 ad, and 1 pd at middle. Hind femur with complete rows of long and strong av and pv. Hind tibia with 1 av, 1 long ad and 1 pd (sometimes 2 pd but one of them short and weak), av and ad not close together, preapical d and pd different in length and not close together.

Wing: Light coloured, with a slight brownish tinge. Calypters yellow; lower calypter a little longer than upper one. Haltere yellow.

Abdomen: Black with thick blue-grey dust, elongate, oval. Tergites 2–4 each with a pair of brown triangular spots, tergite 5 with more or less rounded spots. Sternite 1 bare; sternite 5 large, shining at apex.

Terminalia: as in Figs. 13 View FIGURE 13. C A, 13B.

Female: body 6.0– 6.5mm, wing 5.5–6.0mm.

Similar to male but differing from it as follows: Frons with 3–4 pairs of strong frontal setae, frontal triangle reaching middle of frons. Abdominal paired rounded spots indistinct, tergites with dark bristle-dots. Mid and hind femora with av and pv shorter and weaker than in male.

Ovipositor: as in Figs. 13C, 13 View FIGURE 13. C D.
