Leucophenga ornata View in CoL species group
Leucophenga ornata species group: Bächli 1971: 26; Okada 1990: 679.
Diagnosis. Wing mostly with distinct patch(es) and abdominal third tergite not shortened in male (modified from Okada 1990).
Description. Eyes red to brownish red. Ocellar triangle dark brown; ocellar and postocellar setae developed ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 A). Frons narrow, nearly parallel, with a few minute setulae medially. All orbital setae large; proclinate and anterior reclinate orbital setae very close together, separated by distance less than 1/2 of that between anterior reclinate and posterior reclinate ( Fig. 14 View FIGURE 14 A). Arista long plumose. Face mostly yellow; facial carina undeveloped. Palpus usually yellow basally, brownish to brown distally, slightly larger distally in female than male. Vibrissa prominent; subvibrissal setae small. Gena and postgena narrow. Mesonotum yellow to brown, anteriorly slightly silvery pollinose in male, usually with patch(es) or longitudinal stripe(s). Postpronotal lobe with 1–3 long seta(e) and a few of shorter setae. Acrostichal setulae in ca. 12–16 irregular rows. Prescutellar setae large. Pleura mostly yellowish and with a brown to black longitudinal stripe above (running from propleuron to base of halter). Katepisternal with 2 long and some small setae. Subscutellum sometimes swollen. Basal medial-cubital crossvein absent. Costal vein between R2+3 and R4+5 distally with 6–10 peg-like spinules on ventral surface; R2+3 slightly curved; R4+5 and M1 nearly parallel distally. Halter mostly yellowish white. Legs mostly yellowish. Abdominal tergites variable in the color and pattern. Male terminalia: Epandrium usually pubescent, with several setae around antero-ventral corner to posterior margin and developed apodeme along anterior margin. Surstylus usually broad and flat, pubescent, with several setae on outer and inner surface. Cercus separated from epandrium, pubescent and FIGURE 10. Male terminalia: A, B. Leucophenga ornata ; C, D. setigerous. Hypandrium (gonopod in Bächli et al. 2004) anteriorly fused to aedeagal apodeme, laterally broad, usually with paramedian setae subbasally. Gonopods (dorsal arch in Bächli et al. 2004) fused with each other, forming slightly triangular plate, anterio-ventrally with curved, median rod. Paramere (outer paraphysis in Bächli et al. 2004) contiguous to arm of aedeagal apodeme basally, usually with a few longitudinally arranged sensilla distally. Aedeagal basal bridges contiguous to median rod of gonopods.
