T.D Galloway, 19 females from the same host species, (SM 1812), CANADA, Manitoba, Winnipeg, 6 September 2008, coll. T.D. Galloway and J.A. In contrast to the narrow host range of most Amerodectes species , A. ischyros has been recorded from many species of warblers of the genus Setophaga Swainson and one species of the genus Vermivora Swainson. In the USA, this mite was previously recorded on the Blue-throated Blue Warbler, Setophaga caerulescens (Gmelin) (type host), Prairie Warbler, S. discolor (Viellot) , Chestnut-sided Warbler, S. pensylvanica , American Redstart, S. ruticilla and Golden-winged Warbler, Vermivora chrysoptera (Linnaeus) in Pennsylvania, and on the Cerulean Warbler, S. cerulea (Wilson) , in Arkansas and Missouri ( Hernandes et al. 2018). Close affinity of mite populations from different parulids within the same multi-host species was strongly supported by the molecular data, with the intraspecific K2P distances 0.4–2.3% ( Matthews et al. 2018).

Amerodectes ischyros is recorded herein for the first time in Canada where it was found on two previously known hosts, S. pensylvanica and S. ruticilla , and five new hosts, the Bay-breasted Warbler, S. castanea , American Yellow Warbler, S. petechia, Pine Warbler , S. pinus, Blackpoll Warbler , S. striata , and Cape May Warbler, S. tigrina . In specimens from different Setophaga species in Canada, some characters were slightly different from those reported in the original description of A. ischyros from the type host ( Hernandes et al. 2018). In particular, in females, the rudimentary humeral shields touching humeral setae cp can be completely absent, the anterior margin of the hysteronotal shield can be straight rather than concave, and the median circular fragment of the lobar shields can be completely separated from the lobar pieces. In males, the aedeagus can be longer, extending beyond the midlevel of the adanal suckers and reaching the anterior end of the terminal cleft, and the genital papillae can be disconnected at their bases ( Fig. 14B View FIGURE 14 ).
