TYPE LOCALITY: Georgia, near Kutais .

DISTRIBUTION: Transcaucasia and N Turkey.

SYNONYMS: batis, caucasicus.

COMMENTS: Subgenus Sorex ; externally similar to alpinus . Includes batis ( Corbet, 1978c) and caucasicus which in turn now must be called satunini (see comments therein and Pavlinov and Rossolimo, 1987).
