Lixus hypocrita Chevrolat, 1866: 27 View in CoL
Current status: Lixus hypocrita Chevrolat, 1866 View in CoL is a valid species.
Type. In Chevrolat’s collection at SMNH, under the name “ Lixus hypocrita Chv., Rev. Zool. 1866 , p. 27, Hispania, Aranjues, D. Lethierry, ferula ” is a female pinned through the right elytron (elytra hardly separated, fore right leg missing), bearing the handwritten label: “ Lixus hypocrita Chv. aranjeus, ombellifera a fl. jaune, Lett. sp.”, and fitting the description with type locality as Aranjuez. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus hypocrita Chev., Gültekin des. 2006”.
Remarks. Lixus hypocrita is related to Lixus cylindrus (Fabricius, 1781) and Lixus obesus Petri, 1904 . It is smaller than L. obesus , its punctures are wider and deeper along the elytral base, its rostrum is more curved and cylindrical. The rostrum of L. hypocrita is shorter than that of L. cylindrus , and on the elytra there is a transverse band near the apex but no longitudinal white bands.
