Lixus reichei Capiomont, 1874: 479 View in CoL

Current status: Lixus reichei Capiomont, 1874 View in CoL is a valid species.

Types. In Capiomont’s collection at MNHN, is a male pinned by a thick pin through the right elytron bearing a handwritten label “ Cap.”, and fitting the description with type locality as Algeria, Maroc. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, 3, Lixus reichei Capiomont, L. Gültekin des., 2004”. One female (pinned by a thick pin through the right elytron, left middle leg and the claw segment of the hind tarsus missing) bearing the handwritten labels “ Lixus hita Schönh. ” and “Cap.” is designated as paralectotype and labelled accordingly as “ Paralectotypus Ƥ, Lixus reichei Capiomont, L. Gültekin des. 2005”. Both specimens have been remounted on paper cards, and the male lectotype was dissected.

Remarks. These are the only specimens in Capiomont’s collection fitting the original description of this species; however, additional syntypes should be in the Bellevoye, Chevrolat and Reiche collections according to Capiomont (1874). Lixus reichei from Algeria and Morocco is closely related to Lixus iridis Olivier, 1807 but differs in its longer rostrum, shorter apical protuberances of elytra and shape of aedeagus.
