Current status: Lixus farinifer Reitter, 1892 View in CoL is a valid species.
Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a formerly pinned male (mounted by someone on paper glued on its right side) bearing the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter” printed, “ Lixus farinifer m. 1892” handwritten, “ Holotypus, 1892, Lixus farinifer Reitter ” red brimmed museum label, and fitting the description with type locality as Araxesthal. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, 3, Lixus farinifer Reitter., Gültekin des. 2008”. Four formerly pinned males (all remounted, two with aedeagus dissected) and four formerly pinned and then remounted females bear the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter”, “ Paratypus, 1892, Lixus farinifer Reitter ” red brimmed museum label, are here designated as paralectotypes with “ Lectotypus, 433/4ƤƤ, Lixus farinifer Reitter., Gültekin des. 2008”.
Remarks. This species is related to Lixus cylindrus (Fabricius) , clearly differing by its short rostrum, wide and deep frontal fovea, and distinct aedeagus and pronotum shape.
