Lixus convexicollis Petri, 1904 View in CoL
Lixus convexicollis Petri, 1904: 67 View in CoL
Current status: Lixus convexicollis Petri, 1904 View in CoL is a junior synonym of L. elegantulus Boheman, 1842 View in CoL .
Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a female (pinned through the right elytron which was cracked toward base of elytral humeri, elytra separated) bearing the handwritten labels: “Akbes”, “ Syria, Akbes”, “ Lixus convexicollis n. sp. Petri”, “ Holotypus, 1904, Lixus convexicollis Petri ” red brimmed museum label, and fitting the description with type locality as Akbes, Caucasus, Araxes, and is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus convexicollis Petri., Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus elegantulus Boh., Gültekin det. 2008”.
Remarks. This is the only specimen in Reitter’s collection fitting the original description of the species. As seen below under L. amplirostris , this is the opposite sex of the type of L. amplirostris , which is a female. They share the same locality of “Akbes” in Turkey. Petri (1904a) described the gender difference as different species. Designation of a new synonymy is necessary: Lixus elegantulus Boheman, 1842 [= Lixus convexicollis Petri, 1904 syn. n.].
