Lixus rectirostris Faust, 1890 View in CoL
Lixus rectirostris Faust, 1890: 333 View in CoL
Current status: Lixus rectirostris Faust, 1890 View in CoL is a valid species and is a senior homonym of Lixus rectirostris Desbrochers, 1904 View in CoL .
Type. In Faust's collection at SMTD, a male fitting the description and with type locality as “Biskra”, bearing the labels: [golden square label, indicating types], “3, Biskra, Bedel”, “ rectirostris Faust ”, is here designated as the lectotype, and has been labeled “ Lectotypus, 3, Lixus rectirostris Faust, Gültekin des. 2008” ( Figs. 1–2 View FIGURE 1 – 2 ). A female and a male, bearing the same labels above (a third lacks the golden square), are here designated as paralectotypes, and have been labeled “ Paralectotypus, Ƥ/3, Lixus rectirostris Faust, Gültekin des. 2008”. The lectotype was pinned through the right elytron and the elytra are weakly separated. The right funicle beyond the third segment, left funicle beyond the first segment and left fore tarsus beyond the second segment are missing.
Remarks. The examination of types of both species revealed that Lixus rectirostris Desbrochers, 1904 is conspecific with Lixus rectirostris Faust, 1890 and is also a junior homonym. Since the name Lixus rectirostris was already employed by Faust (1890), the new name Broconius helenae was proposed by Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal (1999: 189). Moreover Hoffmann (1954) described Lixus rectirostris Faust subsp. infrequens Hoffmann, 1954, from Marrakech, Morocco, which he placed in the subgenus Phillixus , based only on slight body size differences. Thus, Lixus rectirostris Faust, 1890 [= Lixus rectirostris Desbrochers, 1904 nec Faust, hom. et syn. n.; = Lixus rectirostris Faust subsp. infrequens Hoffmann, 1954, syn. n.; = Broconius helenae Alonso-Zarazaga & Lyal, 1999 , comb. et syn. n.]. Body form ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 – 7 ), shape of rostrum ( Fig. 4 View FIGURE 3 – 7 ), fore tibia ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 3 – 7 ) and aedeagus ( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURE 3 – 7 ) address this species to the Lixus rubicundus group.
