Current status: Lixus obesus Petri, 1904 View in CoL is a valid species
Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a pinned female bearing the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter” printed, “ Lixus obesus n. sp. Petri” handwritten, “ Holotypus, 1904, Lixus obesus Petri ” red brimmed museum label, and fitting the description with type locality as Caucasus. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus obesus Petri., Gültekin des. 2008”. Seven males and four females bear the labels: “Caucasus, Araxesthal, Leder.Reitter”, “ Paratypus, 1904, Lixus obesus Petri ” red brimmed museum label, and are all here designated as paralectotypes with “ Paralectotypus, Lixus obesus Petri., Gültekin des. 2008”. A male and a female paralectotype were remounted and aedeagus dissected.
Remarks. This species is related to L. hypocrita (see above). In the same museum a female with label “ Montenegro, Westliches, Reitter” has been examined. Thus, L. obesus is a new record for Montenegro.
