Lixus iridis Olivier View in CoL v. levantinus Petri, 1904
Lixus iridis v. levantinus Petri, 1904: 192
Current status: Lixus iridis v. levantinus Petri, 1904 is a junior synonym of L. nordmanni Hochhuth, 1847 .
Type. In Reitter’s collection at HNHM, is a female (pinned through the right elytron, right middle leg missing) bearing the labels “Anatolien, Ak-Cheir, 1900, Korb” printed, “ Holotypus, 1904, Lixus iridis Ol. v. levantinus Petri ” red brimmed museum label, and fitting the description with type locality as Persien, Anatolien, Rumelien, Olymp, Sizilien. It is here designated as lectotype with “ Lectotypus, Ƥ, Lixus iridis Ol. v. levantinus Petri, Gültekin des. 2008”, “ Lixus nordmanni Hochh., Gültekin det. 2008”.
Remarks. The name “ levantinus ”was employed as a new variety of Lixus iridis by Petri (1904b) “ Größer, glänzander, Halsschild sehr stark und tief runzlig-grubig skulptiert, der Rüssel dünner und scheinbar länger, Flügeldeckenspitzen ziemlich lang. Persien, Anatolien, Rumelien, Olymp, Sizilien. ”. According to ICZN article 45.6.4., Lixus iridis Olivier v. levantinus Petri is considered at the subspecific rank. Heyden et al. (1906) was the first to place this name in synonymy with Lixus iridis , followed by Winkler (1932) and Csiki (1934). This is the only available syntype in Reitter’s collection fitting the description. It is not Lixus iridis , and thus a new synonymy is proposed here: Lixus nordmanni Hochhuth, 1847 [= Lixus iridis Olivier v. levantinus Petri, 1904 syn. n.].
