Rhipidomys couesi (J. A. Allen and Chapman, 1893) . Bull. Am. Mus. Nat. Hist., 5:214.
TYPE LOCALITY: Trinidad, Princes Town .
DISTRIBUTION: Trinidad, Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
SYNONYMS: cumananus, goodfellowi, modicus .
COMMENTS: Cabrera (1961) identified couesi as a subspecies of R. sclateri. As emphasized by its original describer Thomas (1887b), sclateri closely resembles Peruvian R. leucodactylus , and, in both Venezuela (see Handley, 1976) and Peru, R. couesi and R. leucodactylus are morphologically distinct.
